"UNIDO has worked tirelessly with BCI and FUNAE, to bring to market a financial mechanism driving the adoption of integrated renewable energy systems, promoting in particular: solar systems for the agricultural value chain; solar systems for productive use of the commercial sector; and systems for transformation of organic waste and into biogas"---- Mr. Jaime Comiche, UNIDO representative in Mozambique.
Budgeted at one million dollars, the credit will be, as stated by BCI administrator, Miguel Alves, in his intervention “in the form of a guarantee fund for risk mitigation, with the expectation of easing the required guarantees”.

The UNIDO representative in Mozambique, Jaime Comiche remarked that “in the last two years UNIDO has worked tirelessly with BCI and FUNAE, to bring to the market a financial mechanism that drives the adoption of integrated renewable energy systems, promoting in in particular: solar systems for the agricultural value chains; solar systems for productive use in the commercial sector; and systems for transforming organic waste and biogas ”. He also referred to the adversities that hit the country, namely the cyclones Idai and Kenneth, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the outbreaks of insecurity in the Central and Northern part of the country. “In the face of such adversities, the relevance of this financial mechanism has become even more reinforced. It has become more urgent to supplement the resilience and adaptability of local communities and SMEs to short-term adversities to protect livelihoods, food security and jobs. The BCI SUPER Credit Line thus becomes part of the response to the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19, and of the ‘building back better’ strategy supported by the UN Secretary-General, ”said Mr. Jaime Comiche.

Speaking at the virtual event,  FUNAE's President, António Saíde, affirmed that the energy fund is engaged in implementing the government's vision of universal access to energy by 2030 within the framework of the Energy for All Program. He urged that “there is an urgent need to transform the means of social inclusion into a means of economic inclusion, that is, to seek the productive use of energy for all”.

Representing the government, the National Director of Energy, Pascoal Bacela, affirmed the launch of the guarantee fund as a great contribution in the construction of the sustainability base for the service of supplying energy to all consumers on a national scale. He stressed that the promotion of the productive use of energy is imperative in the electrification process, emphasizing that this happens at different scales. "The sustainable use of energy happens at different levels, at the micro level, it helps SMEs to create jobs. At the macro level, it is the basis of all development activities, such as education, health, agro-processing, etal. Therefore, we encourage all SMEs and NGOs to embrace the BCI SUPER Credit line " said Mr. Bacela at official launch of the guarantee fund, CREDITO SUPER.
