We intend to install a solar system in order to reduce up to 60% the operational costs with energy, expand and improve our water supply network, which will naturally increase the operational capacity from the current 20 customers to 100 customers and from the current 15.00 hours to 20.00 hours per day of water supply” Aly Cassimo- Administrator

Shine Water & Serviços, Lda has secured a MZN850,000.00 (approximately USD13,500.00) loan to install a solar system for the supply of drinking water to 100 customers in FAO/Nhumbane community, Marracuene district of Maputo province. The company is the first recipient of the BCI credit line worth 1M USD fund implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization- UNIDO, BCI bank, and FUNAE under the Towards Sustainable Energy for All in Mozambique project with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF)

Located in the greater Maputo region that experiences seasonal water scarcity due to a persistent drought since 2015, Shine Water, intends to replace the electrical water supply system with a complete solar system to ensure the pumping of water for storage and distribution.
Currently the company has about 20 customers with an average daily consumption of 500.00 meticais that corresponds to an average monthly revenue of 10,000.00 meticais. This project has a total estimated cost of MZN1,135,000.00 and it will combine the loan from the credit line with investment contributions that will be made by Sheine Water

Once up and running, the solar powered water supply system will benefit 100 people in Nhumbane community, Marracuene district and increase the Sheine Water’s monthly revenue from 10,000 to 50,000 Meticais

With the recently disbursed BCI SUPER credit line fund, Shine Water will be able to implement a project that will, ensure increased access to water supply services to households; increase the capacity to store water in acceptable quantities to ensure that families have water at all times; increase the number of project beneficiaries; and ensure the reduction of electricity costs as the water supply powered by the solar system will be more affordable compared to the electric system.

“The installation process of the water supply system entails, placement of a submersible solar powered pump that extracts water stored in deposits of 10,000litre tanks in towers with an elevation of 12 meters high, which is distributed to consumers” - Benedito Júlio Pinto, Solar technology Supplier.

The BCI SUPER Credit Line for the financing of renewable energy systems for productive uses was launched in April 2021. The fund is the first of the kind in Mozambique allowing Small and Medium size Enterprises, Individual Entrepreneurs, Associations, Cooperatives, NGOs to access funds with attractive conditions including a fixed annual interest rate of 7.5%. Entities interested in benefiting from this funding can express their interest through the project website www.tse4allm.org.mz
